RPA Inc. is pleased to announce the appointment of Christopher Dougherty, PhD, as the eighth President of Madonna University. Dr. Dougherty has dedicated his career to serving institutions of higher education. He currently serves Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia as an Associate Professor of Business. Prior to his current appointment, he was Chestnut Hill’s Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty from 2017 through January 2023. Prior to joining Chestnut Hill, Dr. Dougherty was the Provost and Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs at Rosemont College, also in Pennsylvania. Additional leadership roles held by Dr. Dougherty throughout his career include Associate Dean, Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Rutgers University-Camden; Associate Dean, Graduate and Continuing Studies at Philadelphia University; and Assistant Director of Admissions at Pennsylvania College of Optometry—now Salus University—in Philadelphia. Dr. Dougherty also has extensive experience in teaching, having taught statistics, research methods, and data analytics at several institutions, including Eastern University, Philadelphia University, Rutgers University-Camden, Rosemont College, and Chestnut Hill College. He has also served on the Board of Trustees at Archmere Academy in Claymont, Delaware, including as Chair of the Advancement Committee and as Chair of the Board. His research interests include Adult Learning, Assessment, Liberal Education and the Workplace, Survey Research, Professional Development and Organizational Dynamics in Higher and Continuing Education, and Policy and Practice in Continuing Higher Education. He earned a B.A. in English with a Minor in Spanish from Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. An M.S.Ed. in Higher Education from the University of Pennsylvania, and a PhD in Higher education with a Minor in Sociology from Penn State.
