Many job applicants make the mistake of using professional jargon in their resumes and cover letters. Remember, when you send out a resume and letter of application, you want the prospective employer to be impressed with your experience and attracted by your qualifications. In order to be impressive, it is necessary that the information you provide be understandable, not to you, but to the prospective employer. He or she may not know what JCAHCO is, or why GAAP is important. To her or him, PT/OT may just look like a mistake, and your ability to crosswalk data may sound like a circus act!
If you have any suspicion that the prospective employer will not be able to accurately and easily translate your professional jargon, spell it out.
