When the Recruiter Calls…
Are you flattered or skeptical when a recruiter calls? Will involvement with a recruiter enhance your career or cause problems? There are no simple answers. But there are steps you can take to make your experience with a recruiter positive.
- Ask about money. Does the recruiter want you to pay them to present your candidacy? Do they want you to contribute a portion of your starting salary to pay their fee?
- Ask how they will support you. Will they
coach you on your candidacy? Will they advocate for you with the client?
- Ask if they have a confidentiality policy. Will they send your material to prospective employers without your knowledge, or will they diligently seek your permission before distributing your resume? Will they protect your privacy so you can explore employment options in safety?
- Find out how long they will retain material you send them. Will they continue to contact you and keep you up to date on new opportunities?
- Request reference information. What clients have they served? Will they provide you with the name of a candidate that they have represented?
Knowing the recruiter and knowing something about how they do business will help you to feel confident both in looking at potential career changes, and in recommending them to friends and colleagues. RPA Inc. believes the best recruiting effort serves both the client and the candidates. Involvement in a recruitment effort, whether you are appointed or not, should leave you with clearer professional goals and increased self-confidence.
